- a voluntary, not-for-profit, alternative education centre began in 1982 as a
criticism of formal mainstream schools. Since then it has been an attempt to
understand what education means as distinct from schooling. It is an attempt to
see how education can empower individuals and under-privileged communities
rather than domesticate them or make them unwilling collaborators in their own
exploitation.
